Moravia – a region that often remains in Prague’s shadow, yet is one of the most fascinating and underrated parts of Central Europe. It is a story of a place marked by rich influences: Habsburg, German and Jewish, with magnificent architecture and art, a unique wine culture and industrial heritage.

The authors of this issue examine Moravian identity, history, culture and architecture, taking readers from Ostrava, through Olomouc, to Brno and Znojmo. The issue includes, amongst other things, articles on the interwar avant-garde in Brno, the phenomenon of modernist Zlín, Ostrava’s industrial heritage, and the debates surrounding Moravian distinctiveness.

The issue features essays, interviews and reportage by authors from Poland and the Czech Republic, including Patrycja Bukalska, Ondřej Zatloukal, Marcela Macharáčková, Michał Wiśniewski and Zbigniew Machej. The volume is complemented by a wealth of illustrative material and photographs showcasing the region’s landscape and culture.
